Re: GWA/Scotts Web conference
I tend to go with data on this kind of discussion and look for the
data being used by as many sides as I can. Mind you, how one
interprets that data can differ. :-) I blogged about the seminar
right here

as my take.
Seth Godin has written a book (Meatball Sundae) as a discussion of
what happens when an old concept (such as garden chemicals) tries to
tie itself up in a new concept (such as sustainability). You get
meatballs on the bottom and whipped cream/cherries on the top - and a
totally unappealing result in the marketplace for new consumers. Old
line companies don't or can't "get it" for a large variety of
reasons. Well worth a read if you happen to have a hort company and
want to take it to the next generation of gardeners.
fyi - I also just updated the blog post on the cypress mulch news
release many of us got. You may want to download the pdf report from
LSU at

Steven- looking for big patches of green is indeed something I was
trained to do - but never had to use from 5000 feet. A damn good
thing too in my humble opinion. :-)
