copper and slugs

I have my doubts about copper bothering slugs.

I did a small experiment a while back, when I put a slug in a cup that had
that sticky copper tape all around the rim. While I watched, the slug
slithered up the side of the cup, then sat up on the copper and waved at me
while it looked around from its perch. It didn't seem to me to be the least
bit repelled or unhappy.

Maybe our Canadian slugs are just more metal-tolerant? Or maybe mine are
just tougher by nature.
