Re: Copper Culture-Biodynamic farming

A Smith period is one in which there is 90% humidity for an 11 period
in each of two successive days and the minimum air temperature for
the 48 hour period is 10C - the growing conditions for late blight.
Named after LP Smith, for many years head of the agricultural section
of the British Met Office. A very encouraging man who paid a teenage
weekend garden assistant for his holiday home a lot more than she was
worth.

In the light of current food security problems his 1984 "Fight for
Food" and other publications on weather and food written for the FAO
as early as the 60s are well worth revisiting
