Re: selling from your website
Marty, I too have had great results with PayPal. They provide the code for
the free shopping buttons, offering you an online widget for putting in the
name and price of the item. If there is a sale they notify me by email.
Paypal is free for the book customer to use but as a seller I pay a small
commission on each sale. There's no membership fee or monthly charge. People
use Paypal so they don't have to give their credit card number to an unknown
seller.
If you are selling books with ISBN's, you can also try the Amazon
Marketplace ("I have one to sell") section. I started selling there when I
found myself stuck with some books with bent covers and slight scuffs --
mostly these were damaged by my taking them around to events. I describe the
damage carefully in the listings. Now I sell mint condition books as well as
scuffed ones and get a good response. Amazon handles the customer's payment
and subtracts their fees from what you receive. They give a shipping
allowance, too. I am also in the publisher program, Amazon Advantage.
Amazon Marketplace is better than eBay because there is no listing fee. You
pay the commission only if the book sells. I used to use eBay but I began to
get nuisance emails from fake customers and also I thought that the prices
dropped for their garden books.
