Re: Urban Sustainable Gardening webinar

Hi all,
I listened to the web cast today:
1. Kevin Coyle with the National Wildlife Federation talked about Certified Backyard Habitats - benefits, needs, purpose, etc., and then about their new program, "Be Out There" to get children involved in the outdoors.
2. Nancy Somerville with the national office of the ASLA talked about a variety of "green" and "sustainable" landscape design ideas, including green roofs, greenscapes (for water runoff), and the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SSI). If you don't know about the SSI, it's basically the landscape equivalent/component of LEED building regulations, and is just entering the 2-year pilot project phase.

Both presenters had some new facts and figures to present, so that was interesting to me. At the end, they announced that the slides will be posted on the GWA and Scotts websites shortly. Both presentations also offered links to helpful sites.

Not a lot of really new information, but the updates and links were helpful to me.

Besides, it was my first webinar and I wanted to see how they work - free was a great price for learning one more piece of technology.

Cheers,
Pat
