Come to Ontario and see what is on the garden centre shelves.
A ban of pesticide use for cosmetic purposes is entering its second year.
First year was chaos- on all levels from corporate to the backyard- there
are still lawsuits floating about, but most pesticides were banned,
including many of organic origin. Some are available but only for
restricted use, e.g. glyphos (RoundUp, Wipe Out etc, are available but only
for use on poison ivy.) And yes the reported incidence, not confirmed, of
rampant P.I. spread has risen remarkably across the province.
Corporate has adapted, anybody with corn futures is doing well.
The lawn care companies, the garden centres have adapted and the dollars
flowing through their coffers seem to be the same.
The lawns and gardens have adapted, they just keep growing in spite of what
we do.
Right?Wrong?Fair?Scientific?Emotional?...all moot. It is law here, and it
seems to be working.
