Re: [GWL]: column topics
What I do about winter columns is the same thing I do about summer. I
seldom write about something that must be done to plants right now or next
week. If you get into the "time-appropriate" columns, you'll write about
Christmas trees, amaryllis, Easter lilies, etc., over and over and over, ad
nauseum. IMO any time of year is a good time to learn about a special new
plant imported from South Africa, or some of the distinguishing
characteristics of a plant (any plant appropriate to our area), or genetic
engineering of plants or new fungicides on the market, etc. Watch the
department stores. The minute the Christmas sales are done, here comes
garden and outdoor living equipment. Gardening is bigger commercially than
Christmas, lasting from January to Labor Day. Margaret Lauterbach
