Re: [GWL]: FW: SBLD - ReThink Paper
The "paperless" office was one of the myths of the 70s and 80s. Hewlett
Packard reported recently that the number of documents created worldwide has
doubled since 1996! The count is in the many billions of documents annually
and rising. The hardcopy mindset is hard to break (my wife wants me to print
out all of her emails). The proliferation of computers, business
communication that requires hardcopy, legal documents, etc. no doubt drive
much of this. When I mentioned the "paperless" office to an IT professional
friend I work with, he laughed heartily. Our best response may be to think
hard before printing, and recycle.
Though the paper companies grow trees (a renewable resource) specifically for
making paper and other wood products, they are constantly maneuvering to log
new territories. It has been estimated that less than 10% of Americas old
growth forests still stand unmolested.
