Dear Sheri,
Hubby is wrong.  800 has its uses -- shooting sporting events, for example -- 
but in most cases, slower is better for garden photography.  You'll get much 
sharper images with lower ISO numbers.  I use Fuji Provia 100 slide film for 
most plant shots.
If you don't already have them, get a tripod and a cable shutter release, and 
use them.  You'll throw away fewer pictures.
