Hi Doreen,

   As a quick 'database' you could use a spreadsheet or something similar.
   This will get your information into an electronic form, is searchable,
   and putting things in multiple categories is as simple as cutting and
   pasting.

   I'm integrating a photo management system into the hort.net photo 
   gallery; unfortunately, it's not finished yet (I seem to be saying that
   a lot lately).  But if you don't have an immediate need for one, you
   might want to hold out for that. [1]

   Regarding the Avery labels, I've been using the 1/2" x 1 3/4" white
   return address labels (#5167).  I can fit one onto both cardboard and
   plastic slide mounts with 1/8" to spare on either side and a perfect 
   fit in the short direction.  On my labels I include:

      Scientific name/identifier 
      A rating on a scale of 1-5
      Where the photo was taken
      Film type
      What it's of (i.e. fruit, flowers)
      A unique identifier (in my case, it's based on the date taken)

   The unique identifier is keyed back into my database to pull up other
   information (like GPS coordinates, camera and lenses used, notes/
   comments, etc).  What I'm working on right now is a Web form that 
   will accept a bunch of data, then produce a PDF file to print out 
   on the Avery #5167 slide labels.
