[GWL]: Rodale Press
I think Maria Rodale has a very tough row to hoe with this "Organic Style"
concept. I guess she hopes to compete with Martha Stewart and Oprah, but
for the life of me I can't see how one can generate any real focus on
something called "Organic Style". In my view Organic Gardening lost its
edge when the powers that be in the late 80's refused to compromise on J.R.
Rodale's 1948 rule that all synthetic pesticides are bad. Those of us who
bought into the catechism of Rodale back in the 60's and 70's have learned a
few things in the ensuing years, and the hard and fast rules of J.R. don't
hold up much any more, in my view at least. So not only is "Organic Style"
hard to visualize, I think Organic Gardening as a concept is now hard to
sell, at least as it is defined by Maria and company. It's too bad because
there is no other vehicle that comes to mind out there to help Americans
work to improve their ecosystem through gardening and yard care techniques..
Later,
Jeff
