Re: landscapes sustain global warming prerss release questioned

Doug,

After visiting your web site, I ask you to post the published sources of the empirical data that you indicate is the basis for your book as your site does not seem to allow reference to such materials.

Have you every presented your theory to a professional ecological society conference and what was the reaction from the audience? Have you have a peer reviewed article on the topic published by a professional ecological society ?

No one is trying to scare anyone. A landscape can only (absolutely) ever have
a net oxygen gain to the atmosphere if some of the vegetation grown on the
landscape is never allowed to decompose. This fact is governed by a slew of
fundamental laws - including the first three of thermodynamics.

I have a degree in environmental policy (CSULB), have studied ornamental
horticulture for two years at Cal Poly SLO, and I have been accepted to a
graduate program in landscape architecture based on this work. The idea of
gardening for oxygen is actively and openly endorsed by the City of Irvine,
the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden and many professors (PhDs) from the UC
system.

While the press release may have offended some, it was the truth. Do you
really know (or care?) how much oxygen your landscape produces, daily, monthly
or annually? Do you really know that it is good for the atmosphere? Typically
(as research has shown), people feel that their landscape is good, but don't
have empirical data to support their feelings.
Visit gardeningforoxygen.com. If you still have questions, never hesitate to
howler. While the concept is not difficult to understand, it is difficult to
explain.

Warmest regards,

Doug Kent
