Re: Squirrels and cayenne pepper


Just to add my two cents, well-placed squirrel baffles should deter even the most acrobatic critters. Birds are not affected by cayenne, but mammals are and it supposedly burns their mouths in an unpleasant way, which is the reason for using it as a deterrent in the first place. In areas with bear problems, such as rural and even semi rural areas of the Northeast at present, birdfeeders are best taken in during late afternoon and put out again in the morning with careful attention to raking up the spilled seeds from the ground.
