Re: Edible orchids


Well vanilla extract is ethanol extract of seed pods of an orchid.  They are 
called vanilla beans, because they look much like green beans.  They are put 
through a process somewhat like fermentation before the extraction is done.  
The price goes up as the quantity of crystallized vanillin on the outside of the 
"bean".  they smell good even before extraction.  The extract has to be 70 
proof and the quality control samples are superb gifts to people who are into 
home baking.
