Lon: We recently flew from Toronto to Denver to attend a NARGS meeting and
though security was tight and took a long time at both ends, we had no
problems taking an SLR camera and a digital camera through security. Our
slides were all fine, as were our digital images.

They did make us take our shoes off though... ;-))

Based on that experience, I see no reason not to take my SLR and slide film
when I fly from Toronto to Chicago.
