Re: One-use cameras

I agree with Larry Maupin about point and shoot cameras. In 1999, the GWA
symposium was held in Toronto, a lovely city. Bob LaGasse warned all of us
that Canadian customs would require a bond on each camera body of $500, if
memory serves me, and a bond of about $100 on each lens. The reasons being
that Canada protects it workforce and they see lots of camera gear as a
professional who would sell photos of Canadian flora, fauna and sights,
depriving Canadian photographers of income. La Gasse suggested bringing only
one camera, as to look like a tourist.

I bought a Minolta point and shoot with good glass and took ASA100 and ASA64
slide film. Every slide came out perfect, and I sold a series of 14 shots
of the Music Garden in Toronto to magazines. Prices on good point and shoot
cameras have come down since 1999 when I paid $400. You should be able to
get one with macro and telescoping lens for about $100 to $150 at Best Buy
or Circuit City.
