Re: USDA Climate Map & Canada Gardens to Visit

Title: Re: [GWL] USDA Climate Map & Canada Gardens to Visit
Hi, Doreen -- the USDA did not accept the proposed hardiness map from the American Horticultural Society. It's back to the drawing board and reviewing research and data. So far, no one at the USDA seems to know if or when a new one will be issued. So the one from the early 1990s is still the current one. http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/ushzmap.html

The one at the AHS site is the one AHS proposed but was not accepted.

Around Detroit, you might consider Cranbrook, which is an art school with beautiful gardens and sculpture...haven't been there in fall, so I can't say. http://www.cranbrook.edu/

Is there a web site where the latest USDA Climate Zone map can be
downloaded?  How about the plant hardiness map?

Also, can any of our Michigan and Canadian list members recommend gardens or
other spots of interest to visit in late Sept.  I'm going to Leamington, ON,
across the river from Detroit, for the Yoder Bros. Field Days and am driving
from Illinois.  What other good things are there in that area of Canada?  I
read on the town's web site that 70 percent of greenhouses in Canada are
located the area due to the mild climate.
