Have You Heard.....
â¦..about the new predatory wasp that attacks Mexican Bean Beetles? Imported
from India, it does not winter over in the U.S. The bean beetle is itâs only
domestic prey.
Full details about this wasp, along with other organic pest and disease
controls, will be unveiled at the Appalachian Heirloom Seed Conservancyâs annual
Fall Conference, October 6-8 in Berea, Kentucky.
Information like that is just one reason you should be encouraging your
readers to attend this meeting. For anyone interested in collecting and growing
heirlooms the AHSC Fall Conference is becoming the place to be.
In addition to two full days of presentations on subjects ranging from
selecting heirloom melons to preserving the heirloom harvest, there are two formal
swap meets (last year something on the order of 180 varieties of seed
changed hands) and tours of the Sustainable Mountain Agriculture Center, hosts for
the conference.
New this year is a special Market Growers/Buyers Round-Table discussion.
And, because of widespread interest, John Strang will devote an entire afternoon
to heirloom fruits and berries.
Working garden and agriculture writers are invited to the conference as our
guests.
