While it is not their favourite habitat, I do have some native I. capensis
growing out in full sun. They tend to be a tad shorter and slightly less
flowering than their shade loving neighbours. I also have seen (but do not
allow on my garden because it is quite weedy) I. glandulifera out in the
full hot sunshine. It actually did quite well out there as long as it was in
decent soil (always assuming you like this plant to begin with) :-) Both of
these grow better in part shade though.

But I agree that the normal impatiens that I've seen in cultivation -
including the I. walleriana, balsamina, hawkeri, mirabilis, I've had have
all done better in shade to part shade.

And even though I gave the sunlover a nod in my then-new blog, I wasn't
impressed with the performance here in Eastern Ontario. Just another New
Guinea Impatiens (many Impatiens are native to N.G) as far as I can tell and
best in semi-shade to shade (even though they've been sold as sun-tolerant
for years. Let 'em get dry and see what happens. :-)) And the sunlovers
were a bit pricey for what they are - - but hey- let's hear it for good
marketing!

Interesting comments from the grower if they really did say the origins of
the impatiens were sun-loving plants. The ones I've been familiar with
that
are native to the American northeast, mountains of east Africa and south
Asia
all grow in shade to semi shade and they wilt quite readily in full sun.
Wonder if anyone knows of and impatiens species that grow in full sun.
