Re: Rain Garden Redoux (sp?)


Throwing another term into the mix - hereabouts it is called "Bayscaping" - 
in an effort to trigger homeowner's minds to the connection between what they 
do in their garden and the effect it has on the Chesepeake Bay. We devoted our 
March/April issue this year to Stormwater Management issues and rain gardens 
are a big part of that effort. Many people in suburban developments have that 
manmade swale (aka drainage ditch) between their lawn and the street - which 
forms a de facto rain garden - wish more people took advantage of it and planted 
it out with mixed beds of appropriate choices. I see many that continue to 
painstakingly mow it or they let the grass/weeds grow high to even it out and 
visually obscur the swale.
