Tomato Tasting Festival Ideas
You could take a page from the county fair book and do "blue ribbon tomatoes" exhibit or contest eg best matched set of five tomatoes, heaviest tomato, tallest tomato, weirdest shape tomato, smallest ripe tomato, best heirloom collection, best slicer, beefstake, paste, cherry; prettiest jar of home canned tomatoes, chef's choice, etc.
You could do a salsa tasting for tomato-based salsa recipes -- maybe local chefs or restaurants would participate. Accompany with salsa music, of course.
You could do a tomato parade with kids, dogs, strollers and etc decorated as tomatoes or tomato-related products. (this is my favorite)
You could do a best tomato photo contest.
You could do tomato-themed rap music and tomato-themed dance demonstrations.
You could do an a ode-to-the-tomato poetry jam.
You could do a "pizza garden" how-to demonstration.
You could do a "most inventive" tomato stake/support system contest.
You could do a tomato drying demonstration with best dried tomato tasting.
You could do a penny jar display with "vote for your worst tomato problem" and donate the proceeds to appropriate non profit .... and use the results to frame some magazine content next summer.
Happy Tomatoes!
