Re: Sad news.

Thanks Jeff for letting us know of Jim Wilson's passing.

My Jim story began in 1997 when I attended my first GWA symposium in Boston. Fellow Texan, Bill Adams introduced me to Jim and we instantly hit it off. He encouraged me to spread the word about growing vegetables, as I had just begun my six-year sint as garden editor at Woman's Day magazine.

When I moved to Illinois from Texas the next year, I plunged into organizing PAR statewide. Jim and I spoke in Peoria at the Master Gardener's convention in 2000 about PAR. He was inspiring; I just picked up the back. For the last four or five years, Illinois has contributed the largest percentage of annual PAR collections in North America. A couple years ago, we collected 40 percent of the PAR yearly total.

Thanks Jim. Tens of thousands of hungry people have eaten a healthy meal thanks to you. Doreen Howard
