Signed is sold indeed!  When my first two books came out back in the late 80's, I constantly went into bookstores and asked if they'd like me to sign the books as autographed copies sold better.  They were always happy to have me sign them - and I was always happy because I knew they were now "sold".  Have a feeling they wouldn't be as accomodating these days.

As publishers say, a signed book is a sold book. That is because it is not 
returnable to the publisher.

did my duty, one hour at their booth, later that day. When I was almost 
finished, a guy came up with a huge smile on his face. He had gotten my book 
for half price because someone had written in it. When I turned to the page 
to sign it, I realized it was me!
