Another midwestern gardener's two cents worth on seasonally confused plants.
I garden in the St. Louis, MO area and my clematis has four beautiful large
blooms, although we have had some 28 degree weather that took out the
foliage. It's really a strange sight. I also have blue salvia in bloom and
my PJM has a few blooms. I noted some forsythia in full bloom down the
street--what a sight with the Christmas decorations up!
