RE: [GWL]: GWAA awards again

I get the impression that if someone needed to write off list it was a
negative comment. Why so shy in this gang? I've gotten four or five awards
over the years and I'll be applying again next year for a project I'm
working on this year. Over the years there has been the general feeling,
not inaccurate, that the awards in garden writing were just inhouse ego
trips that didn't mean anything out in the real world. People did a
fantastic professional job on a project and got the award and then what?
Even the top books didn't get recognition from their publishers in terms of
any stickers or anything on the award winning book in the book store.
That is the major reason GWAA hired Impact Marketing and Suzi McCoy and her
able crew. They are charged with making the awards mean something in the
real world; translate that into producing more money for the award winners.
Award winners will be getting a lot of publicity. Publishers will be urged
strongly to do something in recognition of one of their books receiving an
award. This hoopla may not trickle down the person who wins the award for
the best article about grapes, but then who pays attention to grapes anyway
(grin).
The point of this harangue is that the value of the award process goes up as
the number of applicants for each category goes up. So I recommend everyone
who thinks they have a product that is worth consideration, go ahead. For
those of you who already have some dumb looking plaques as past winners, try
again, you'll still get a plaque, but now it might mean something in terms
of your work and revenue.
No, Suzi did not pay me to make this plug.

I had my question about the awards answered off-list. Gives me the distinct
impression that one entry is probably all most people ever make. Or want
to.
    'Nuff said.
