It would stun me if this were the rate for a syndicated column. It sounds
more appropriate for a one-time exclusive type of right. Publications buy
syndicated work (at the expense of all the rest of us writers) so that they
DON'T have to pay this kind of money to freelancers. The pay is usually much
less but the writer makes out by having multiple publications paying it.
(i.e. it is more likely that the price is $35.00 but 10 publications are
buying the syndicated work--the writer still gets $350 [or more if her/his
marketing is good] and the publications fills its space).
