Re: [GWL]: GWAA awards entry fee


There have been a lot of comments on the fee to enter the awards. Imagine no fee: everyone would feel free to enter multiple pieces of writing. The selection committee and judges would be overwhelmed with paperwork. The fees ensures that entrants pick only their very best work, and go towards financing the project. Nothing is free in this world.
 
Yes, it's pricey (esp. for those of us with a low Canadian dollar). However, you could ask the publication to pay or split the entrance fee with them, or get a loved one to give it as a Christmas gift, as has been suggested.
 
A friend urged me to enter one year, I didn't win anything, but she took me out to dinner later to make up for it. Just chalk the fee up as a tax deductilbe business expense. It's allowable, isn't it?
