Great points Doreen. I forgot to mention that I offer four columns
for free to new editors if they seem interested. The size of the
circ. certainly does rule the rate. All of the papers I write for
are weeklies, small community papers with a circ. between
6-10,000. Being syndicated certainly familiarizes people with
your name and yes, the fame never fails to surprise me.

Fame or fortune.....
Can't you have both?

Syndication paves the way, opens doors, puts experience under your
belt and if you're organized, can connect you with a wealth of
valuable contacts & resources. It doesn't take you all week to write
that column and meanwhile you're building up a massive foundation of
workable story ideas for magazines, possibly books.

Because of my column, five years ago I was asked to become editor of the first
publication dedicated to gardeners on the East Coast. (a 16 pg.colour
tab, 8 Issues annually)

Now if only I can add another 20 papers to my syndication....
