Re: [GWL]: awards
I don't mind about paying the fee, but I would like to see some changes in
the awards categories. Since I publish several regional gardening books, of
course I'd like to see regional books as a category. A regional book is not
necessarily technical (one of our GWAA book categories) but it certainly is
not general (the other book category). A regional book does not have to be
all things to gardeners in all climates, which is an advantage. However, its
market region is limited, which often means making a smaller print run. The
economic side of color printing is that most of the cost is in the setup.
The more you print, the lower the cost per piece. For regionals, this a
disadvantage that sometimes leads to limiting color photos, which may shave
a book's competitive edge.
