RE: [GWL]: GWAA awards entry fee


I've heard it said more than once that "real" awards do not have entry 
fees.  Another variant is:  Any award you have to apply for isn't worth 
much.  (Even if the application is free.)   

I'm inclined to agree with both statements.  Frankly, in my book, any 
award that only considers those who specifically apply is of seriously 
questionable significance.  Any award process that charges a stiff fee 
for application is REALLY not to be taken seriously.  I think the GWAA 
award may be getting exactly as much attention as it deserves -- none.  

If GWAA can't do awards without charging fees, perhaps it shouldn't be 
doing them at all.
