Good luck Linda, I hope they take it. One other thing about 
approaching papers - even when they say no, I still make it a point 
to remain cheerful and positive. Follow up with a postcard from time 
to time. Editors can change their mind in a flash. Spring is an 
especially likely time for them to acquire a column and even if it is 
only temporary, at least you've got your foot in the door. 

Something one of my writers did when she first contacted me regarding 
writing for our publication was to send me 1/2 dozen pens with her 
contact info on them. Now that's smart thinking. I've grabbed one of 
her pens many times in the past and she immediately comes to 
mind.....
