Re: [GWL]: The decline of garden writing


Another factor in the decline, as least in many magazines, is that editors
are now more interested in pictures than words. (Great news for those of you
who do photography.) The major woman's magazine for which I do a garden
package every May has asked for 2,500 words for the upcoming 2002 package.
Mostly, I'll be writing snappy intros and words to go with the pics. In
previous years, the word count was double that for 4 to 5 stories. That
means what I make on this issue has effectively been cut in half.
