RE: [GWL]: Maybe it is the publisher

It was Patti Hagan.  Thanks Betty.  I don't know where she is now.  What a
great writer!
Back to the thread.  Don't forget that this thread started with Andrew's
question about why the writing opportunities are going down.  Yes, Master
Gardeners and County Extension Agents do write for free, but that is not the
issue.  The number of pages is down.  Publishers and editors are able to cut
back on gardening space in their publications and there is no outcry.
Including the gardening column does not apparently represent a significant
value to the editors and publishers.  So why not?
One possibility discussed was that the information was getting boring; maybe
or maybe not
Another suggested we don't read as much any more, but let the sports editor
cut out football and see what happens.
Maybe in the seventies and eighties the papers and magazines needed to fill
space, so gardening was as good as anything, and then in the ninties and
beyond space becomes expensive so gardening may as well be dropped because
there is no real support our there from the readers to keep it.
It is a puzzlement.
