RE: [GWL]: Digest for Gardenwriters@topica.com, issue 287

"Pretty soon HGTV will be full of computer stuff. Watch for it in a
complicated home theater near you."

HAHAHAHA :) Gardening humor....that's what we need!

On to other subjects:

Well, in this case we need to convince gardeners that there are more
plants out there than the same old perennials and annuals they are
accustomed to.

How many gardeners realize that the plants they let die could be brought
indoors because they are tropical? How many gardeners get the maximum
benefit from each plant they grow by using proper fertilizer, cutting
them back, etc.? Proper pruning and care is an area I haven't seen much
on.

I was just reading somewhere or other about a 'different' container
gardening technique where containers are placed in a large container and
routinely replaced with fresh containers for continual blooms.

I also did a paid report this fall on plants that perform well after
they receive frost. These were all common plants that most gardeners
are already aware of but do not use to their full extent.

Many gardeners here mow there beds down (or cut) as soon as cool weather
hits. What a waste of plants! I cut mine back in the spring! Ok,
maybe that is extreme but I do still have blooms outside and as far as
I'm concerned let nature take its course.

Good gardening is a continual learning process. There are so many
plants and so many techniques I don't believe it is possible to learn
everything there is to know in this lifetime.

Learning how to push your zone to its extreme is another area that would
take a gardener some time to pursue and could be well worth learning. I
am currently working on an article about the proper technique for doing
this.

No fluff...just the facts...and that my dear, is my 2 cents!

...who some day MAY master growing tropicals outdoors in zone 5!
