Re: LCD projectors?

Nan,

I would suggest that you consider investing in the hardware that allows the PowerPoint presentation to be transferred onto 35 mm slide film. There are companies that will take your electronic files and generate the files, but this can be expensive and time consuming to transfer the files unless you have a cable internet connection.

Most places provide 35 mm slide projectors without any problem.

Another alternative that I would suggest even if you have access to a computer projector is ordinary overhead transparencies in B&W or color.

When technical difficulties arise, and they frequently do, having a backup plan for your presentation is desirable.

The technology has been improving and the cost dropping, but we are still talking $3-5,000 for a high quality unit. The bulbs are very expensive. Transporting them by car is the preferred method. Otherwise you should invest in a substantial padded packing case.

Anyone know anything about those LCD projectors that hook up to a laptop for PowerPoint presentations? I seem to be giving lots of talks lately and I wonder if it makes sense to purchase my own small projector so I know that I have all the equipment I need when going to give a talk. Most groups still don't have these projectors but they are critical when you have digital images.
