Re: Garden Writers wanted

Tom-

I remember my research in hydroponics over 25 years ago. The implications of my tomato research was not known to me then. Hind sight gives clarity. A tomato farm in Columbia was my very first job offer. Perhaps I should have considered it then? My professor back then, Ernest Bergman, at PSU was convinced that doing hydroponics would show quick results when working with plants when looking for nutrient deficiencies. One could calibrate the uptake of nutrients in single plants and see the overall effects of nutrient deficiencies - make deficiencies quickly without the use of soils. It was a great opportunity for me to understand the effects of nutrition in plants and the implications of certain toxic elements on the overall health of a plant. It could be done with any plant.

Anyway...tomatoes have since proven themselves as a stellar crop for hydroponics and continue to be.
