Re: RSS feeds




Ok, maybe I'm out of touch here, but this one went over my head. What is RSS and what 'feeds' are you after???

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it is a way to distribute info on the net. You might have heard of Blogs. Blogs are the information content while RSS is the distribution method. A feed is another word for blog. As an example, I now have the BBC world news fed into my reader in synopsis format so I can scroll through the latest world news when I start my computer in the morning (if automatically updates itself on any schedule I set for it). If I'm interested in the headline, I can click on it to bring up the story. I'm interested in whether there's a good horticultural "feed" that gives the same kind of thing or whether there's other interesting "stuff" that garden writers find useful/interesting. There's approximately a bajillion blogs out there (that number is higher than a million but less than a billion) :-) and I'm looking to short circuit the search process.

RSS is the next wave of information transfer technology.

Being just about to start full time writing again, I'm in a technology race to bring myself back up to speed on all this stuff. Lots of interesting things going on in the information transfer business and RSS is just one of them.
