Melanie - You have actually taken classes just on photographing hemerocallis? Sounds a bit parochial, if you don't mind my saying so. What about the other 14 zillion varieties of flowers? If you pointed your camera at another plant did the instructor call you on it? Seems to me it's like taking a class just on photographing orange flowers.
I've gotten some great responses to my initial email, many privately - thanks everyone - it's interesting, most of the answers are related to understanding digital cameras & digital photography issues. Some were more traditional, the "what's an f-stop?" kind of thing.
I'm still open to suggestions if someone has another idea.
