Re: Amazon.com Advantage
I sell my book, The Cape Cod Garden, through the Amazon Advantage program. I don't sell a large percentage of the books sold through Amazon, and I make some of the discount money back by having a direct link to amazon and the book on my web page. If someone goes to Amazon through my page and buys other books while there, I make some money. You won't get rich from it, but a little here and there add up and make up for their required 60% discount.
My biggest quarrel with the program is that the orders are computer generated. This means that I can get an order for one book on Monday, and another order for four books on Wednesday. At first I would send off the one book as soon as I got the order, but after feeling annoyed that another order would so rapidly follow, I contacted Amazon and they said that I should wait a couple of days and then combine any orders. Unfortunately, the people that unpack the boxes and process the books don't seem to be able to understand this concept, and I have had repeated headaches getting Amazon to acknowlede that all orders have been filled.
Given the fee, discount, and headaches, I guess I'd say that it's still worth it - I'm not losing money by doing it, and I think there is a certain advantage (cough) to having a book on the Amazon site.
