Aperture is a huge program that requires big wide studio monitors to
get its full benefit. I already use dual monitors and have still
resisted Aperture because of its complex display. It is, like most
Apple programs, the best at what it does and humbled the Adobe folks
(Photoshop) when it came out as a stand alone image editing tool, but
there are plenty of less expensive and less complex image editing
tools. You will likely get iPhoto when you get the iMac. That should
be fine.
Photoshop CS2 comes with Bridge which is what I am using for image
editing and will wait for Adobe to come out with Lightroom in a few
months, which is their answer to Aperture and no doubt will work
seamlessly and improve Bridge. It is a very interesting aside to think
that Adobe/Photoshop, for so long as been the defacto standard in image
processing, was caught so flat footed by Apple's professional image
editing tool. Apple revolutionized film editing with Final Cut Pro and
no professional in the digital photo industry should think Apple will
not continue to become a software power. My 2cents.
