Jeff, 

It would be, but in my experience, when the publisher sends me to a venue,
they cover (or more often "reimburse") my expenses (travel, hotel. Food),
but don't pay a speaker's fee. What I've done in such cases is get the group
to hire me, and tell them that the publisher will reimburse them for the
other expenses.  Otherwise , I'm stuck with a great outlay of $$, with
little remuneration (and don't get me going on a rant about royalties and
the money publishers hold back....)
