Re: Digital Magazines
A company sends me the link to their pet trade magazine "on line". It
has all the zoom and page turning abilities, and uses Flash type
software.
Two problems:
1) The text is often very difficult to read on coloured/graphic
backgrounds unless zoomed to a high level.
2) The software is *#@/*
In fact, despite having a well spec'd computer with the latest
version of Flash, I've never succeeded in seeing more than a couple
of pages before my IE browser locks up and crashes. The publisher
didn't respond to my comments, and I've no idea how many (or how few)
customers ever manage to read the magazine online.
I think Doug's points are also very valid. Unless it is a small
magazine/journal that folk are likely to print out and keep (in which
case pdf is the way to go), I would avoid putting it online in that
format.
Take the hint from the big newspapers. They don't put their issues
online as a direct copy of their print editions. They adapt the
content into individual articles in a website layout.
