Re: The End As We Know It
I just found time to read M. Arrington's article. I am assuming from
comments on this list his suppositions are being taken seriously.
I don't believe I buy into his foundation comments or conclusions.
Lines like" It's the rise of fast food content that will surely, over time,
destroy the mom and pop operations that hand craft their content today."
This type of hand-wringing has been going on from my first memories
as an adult. I may visit a McDonalds on occasion, especially for breakfast,
but that does not prevent my wife and I from dining out at a decent
restaurant. Which we do, and often it is with friends. We seek out great
local chefs who are serving up good meals at reasonable prices. Two
different kinds of dining coexisting. McDonalds and fast food is not killing
good cafe's.
"My advice to content creators is more subtle. Figure out an even more
disruptive way to win, or die."
Becoming more like the enemy than the enemy may win a battle, but
does not win wars. There are decent and law abiding writers, editors,
publishers and readers out there who still have respect for writing and
writers. Also everyone is forgetting the large population who could care
less what happens on the internet for they do not worship at the feet of
that beast. Hard copy is not dead and there is still room for a good garden
writer with an original, well-written article, or book, to find a home.
how many of you have been around long enough to remember the instant
camera? 8 mm film, then Super 8mm and finally with sound? Video hit in two
formats of about 20 pounds each.... digital killed them all. Right now
everyone thinks they are a photographer because of digital, but that too
shall pass. It has in the past. Video and digital put a lot of trash in the
mainstream of movies, but we still get blockbusters.
Changes mean just that. Changes. Not doom
