Re: The End as we know it

Various thoughts - off-island yesterday and intrigued by responses...

Billy- you misunderstand I suspect. Dan was talking about NOgoodnicks - A
NOgoodnick resigned from the goodnick clan and is now pursuing life in
another format. This may temper your desire to hook up with them but then
again...

Susan - thanks for the note re Darren's ebook launch. Darren uses Jeff
Walker's Product Launch Formula - and it looks like about a 4% response rate
(I believe Darren's list is up around 100K) It's always interesting to see
how this is applied and the lessons learned - a good post from him.

Dan - you're right about the percentage of full time writers being small -
I'm not sure this is changing much. It's always been a relatively small
number of writers who make the bulk of their income from writing. And I
think GWA did a survey a while back about income levels etc etc. You may be
able to pull that up from the site or by contacting the office directly.

Gene - Arrington tends to take a "position" and push it a bit. That's his
writing style. He's pointing out the systemization and "mechanization" of a
system that's been known for some time. The point of this kind of article
is not to educate or inform - the point is to "get the click" - or adsense
income from it. The reader is not important - the click is. What he
doesn't mention in the article is that Google has made it very clear that
they no longer use keywords as part of their algorythm - (other search
engines may but haven't stated) - they use a ton of other variables - some
2-300 "off-site" measurements to evaluate the impact of each
article/website. So keyword stuffing and structure is less important than
other things that can be done. And when a site/network develops a negative
reputation - all parts of that network will be influenced by those
rankings. So - it's a race for the bottom. Think Wal-mart... tons of
products, at low prices and they make their money on volume and low
overhead. But they own the bottom. So - a tactic that competes against
this sytem is going to have problems - but there are other ways of creating
content and readers.
