Re: the end as we know it
Thanks, Doug, for that link. Very interesting. It also illustrates that many of the online "opportunities" that are basically like magazines or newspapers -- in that someone else has come up with the idea or publication and runs the show -- don't pay well at all.
That's not to say they should always be avoided, of course. They can be opportunities that lead to bigger and better-paying jobs.
But if you spend too much time on them, you'll never get to where you're supporting yourself by writing. (And for years I made my living from garden writing.)
I don't know about others but As a Web searcher, I avoid sites like Demand because I can't assess the writer's credentials for answering the question/writing the how-to.
Anyway I agree with all the remarks about continually reinventing ourselves. It's essential. And I appreciate Doug keeping us on our toes about it.
