Re: GWA Awards - Blogs/websites ARE unique animals.
Barbara, excellent points. In the digital world, really the distinction
between "Artist" and "publisher/producers" of "overall products" doesn't
work. Bloggers don't just write their blogs; they're in charge of all those
indivdiual elements that GWA has been judging separately - writing, design,
photo, etc. Blogs and static websites (and the distinction between those
is hazy now, too) are whole products and need to be judged as such. They
also (I agree with Barbara here too) need to be experienced and judged
online, not in print. (Printing them out misses the whole experience of
them.)
(Ditto for video, btw. Many garden writers are
producing/editing/writing/etc their own videos.)
Seems the whole awards program needs to be looked at outside the print box
it's been in for so long with its categories, procedures and fees that no
longer make sense for so many of us. Judy and others - is there time to do
this for the next go-round? How can that happen? Susan
