While working on my book on invasive plants, I "met" two wonderful people in Hawaii, Forest and Kim Starr. I think they teach at the university. The HEAR project (Hawaii Ecosystems at Risk) apparently recently lost its funding, which is a real shame. But they seemed super-knowledgeable about the islands and their plant life, and really nice.

This list sure is quiet.

It's looking like I may be in Hawaii (main island) in the end  of March.  
I'd have no contacts there and was wondering if anyone on the  list knew of 
any extension people there that I might contact.  I'd like to  visit a 
pineapple plantation (probably not Dole), a coffee plantation and a  commercial 
orchid growing operation.

Also wide open for any other suggestions of sites to visit  that would make 
good article material.
