I use nighttime to apply varmint repellant.

But regarding cap lights ... LED prices are plummeting and availability is 
exploding. I was just in Lowes yesterday and they had several moderately 
priced, even cheap, head lights. Same with WalMart. I have a pocket sized 
flashlight that throws 600 lumens(!), and since I got it the price has 
dropped by half and will probably go lower. You can get LED solar garden 
lights now for as little as a couple of bucks instead of 30 or 40 of little 
more than a year ago.
