[GWL]: Copyright of edited versions?
I recently had an editor tell me that even though I don't give away
or assign copyright to a publication, the publication gets the
copyright of my edited version. They need to give their permission
for reuse of the edited version and they have a right to distribute
that edited version as they choose.
This makes no sense to me. Why would editing my work give that
publication a copyright? Why would the fight for copyright go to the
supreme court if that were the case?
But, I've been wrong before. What do you think?
