Re: Welcome

I do more landscaping than writing, but have been published in three
specialty society newsletters, one commercial association newsletter, and
decades ago in the local paper. I also do small things to help scientific
efforts, grunt work, but it helps. I might be doing a short general
gardening column this year for the local newspaper as part of a public
education effort to support urban forestry projects.

I also pull stuff from university sites to pass along to friends and
acquaintances. Around Boston what is available to the general public is a
waste of paper. The Commonwealth of Mass. doesn't support extension services
for the general public, only professionals. Once you leave the Arnold
arboretum and a few other academic sites around here it's time to learn by
repeating everybody else's mistakes until you buy 20 textbooks to learn what
you need to grow stuff in "The Hub of the Universe".

We have pretty good medical care here in eastern Mass., but in Wyoming they
have easier access to agricultural, horticultural info. Shouldn't garden
writers be telling readers more about how to learn the technical stuff, so
they won't have to repeat the same mistakes as often?

Well, That's enough ranting.
